CHASHAMA, INC.
chashama was founded by a group of theater artists from Reza Abdoh's Dar A Luz Company in 1995. Their debut work was "Junior Black's Office", performed in the 2nd floor windows of abandoned offices in 40 Worth St and broadcast down to boomboxes on three streets surrounding the building for audiences gathered on the sidewalks.
today, chashama produces, presents and creates site-specific experimental theater, film, video, radio and other multi-layered, cross-disciplinary projects.
chashama currently operates four converted storefront venues at 135, 129, 125 and 111 West 42nd Street in New York City. Over the past five years the company has presented the work of numerous choreographers, directors, performance and visual artists. currently, over thirty artists benefit from space grants and artist-in-residency grants in our venues provided by chashama.
